Nine ideal figures receive Golden Bla Award

The Golden Bla Awards ceremony took place on Saturday, May 20, 2023, in the presence of Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, Iraqi First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, and several other officials and party members.

The national anthems of Iraq and Kurdistan were performed after a poem by Ibrahim Ahmed to start the celebration.

The orchestra of the House of Music then played the music of two anthems composed by Ibrahim Ahmed. A documentary movie on Ibrahim Ahmed's life was then shown to the audience.

The First Lady of Iraq, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, read the speech of the Golden Bla Award's Supreme Committee. She said: "This ceremony is a serious reflection on the people who have dedicated their lives to serving the Kurdish people and Kurdistan. It is also for the foreign authors, readers, and historians who have made significant contributions to the advancement of our country, and we assure them that we will not forget about them."

"Ibrahim Ahmed's ideas and projects have transcended all boundaries and unequivocally demonstrated his support for democracy and the participation of women in political conflict. Going back to his works, we can see that they significantly influenced the political climate in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the First Lady of Iraq added.

Winners of the award 
The Nine Ideal individuals who received the awards are as follows:
- Mrs. Ndrgiz, regarded as the mother of Anfal and one of the Anfal campaign survivors, received the Ideal Mother Award.

- The Ideal Writer Award went to Mohammed Ali Qaradaghi.

- The Golden Bla Award for Language Preservation was given to Ako Jalilian.

- The Ideal Judge Award was given to Judge Qasim Osman.

- The Golden Bla Award for Outstanding Researcher was given to Bwar Nuraddin.

- The Golden Bla Award for Outstanding Activist went to Maureen McClatchy.

- Dr. Ismail Qamendar was awarded the Golden Bla Award for Outstanding Writer and Academic.

- The Ideal Kurds Friend Award was presented to Mrs. Ancloyd (translation spelling).

- The Golden Bla Award for the ideal Kurdish-friendly journalist and writer was given to Cengiz Çandar.
What is the Bla Award?
As a yearly custom, the Ibrahim Ahmed Foundation holds a ceremony to commemorate this great man's spirit. Bla is the alias of Ibrahim Ahmed, a legendary leader, politician, Peshmerga, attorney, author, and journalist.

Since 2022, the award has been presented to several distinguished personalities and figures, including exemplary mothers, Peshmerga, students, artists, and authors. The shortlist of the ideal individuals is based on their duties, efforts, and contributions to various fields.

Ideal Mother: This award is presented to an exemplary and hardworking mother who has proudly assumed the responsibility of raising her children while serving alongside her spouse or who has raised her children following the passing of her husband.

Ideal Student: This award is given to a student who successfully completes their education after their father's martyrdom.

Ideal Peshmerga: This award is presented to a Peshmerga who has participated in numerous battles while serving selflessly, tirelessly, and valiantly.

Ideal Writer: This award is awarded to a writer who has constantly contributed to the literary field of Kurdish writing and literature with his pen, imagination and intellect and has supplied numerous works to the Kurdish library.

Ideal Artist: This award is presented to an artist who has made remarkable contributions to the Kurdish art scene.
A brief biography of Ibrahim Ahmad (1914–2000)
The Bla Awards is sponsored by the Ibrahim Ahmed Foundation in loving memory and dedication to the writer, politician, and intellectual Ibrahim Ahmed. He was born in Sulaymaniyah on March 6, 1914. He was a spring of thought and creativity. In addition to being one of the pioneers in writing stories and novels, he was a prominent poet and journalist. He was a politician and a fighter for the rights of the Kurdish people. 

Ibrahim Ahmed, a Kurdish writer, novelist, and translator, was born in Sulaymaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan, and studied Law at the University of Baghdad, graduating in 1937. From 1942 to 1944, he served as a judge in the capital city of Irbil and Halabja. He was a judge in Irbil and Halabja from 1942 until 1944. He co-founded the Kurdish literary monthly Gelawêj alongside Alaaddin Sajadi in 1939. He served as publisher, and the Editor in Chief oversaw the publication. Gelawêj first appeared in 1949. During this time, he grew interested in politics.

He passed away in London on  April 8, 2000, leaving an extensive collection of literary works.
