Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Mark Bryson Richardson, the British ambassador to Iraq, to discuss internal Kurdistan concerns, the elections, and ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.

Regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, Qubad Talabani stated in the Erbil meeting on May 7, 2023: "As the PUK, we're in favor of holding elections soon, and we're doing everything we can to make sure they're clean, fair, and free, in line with international standards, so that people have more faith in elections and institutions."

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that prior discussions with the parties had gone well and that there were only a few issues of disagreement concerning the quota seats to work out.

He said: "We hope to reach a final agreement soon."

Qubad Talabani said about the problems inside the Kurdistan Region: "These problems have harmed the Region's standing, so the PUK has said before that we are ready for any initiative."

"There are still some efforts made," he said, "and we are hopeful that we will move toward a solution soon and solve most of the problems."

During another part of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister talked about the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad and said: "We want to resolve our problems with Baghdad in a deep and lasting way."

"If we can resolve our problems in the Kurdistan Region, we can solve our problems with Baghdad in a way that benefits both sides. "
