The Pentagon has contacted the Turkish leadership and reaffirmed the continued cooperation between the coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the US Defense Department said.

US Department of Defense announced that the Pentagon has contacted the Turkish leadership and reaffirmed the continued cooperation between the coalition and SDF and that the case of the drone attack on Sulaymaniyah airport is currently on Biden's desk at the White House."

On Friday, Turkey launched a drone attack on a joint convoy of troops from the international coalition against terrorism and the SDF, including commander Mazloum Abdi, at Sulaymaniyah International Airport.

According to a US Department of Defense source, the Pentagon has contacted the Turkish leadership, and they have reaffirmed the coalition and SDF's continued cooperation, as well as their commitment to completing their missions at all costs, including the risk of losing soldiers.

Researcher on US foreign affairs Sean Monaghan said, that "Ankara must accept responsibility for the attack, which was an unexpected occurrence. Turkish and Pentagon avenues of communication have broken down. Washington is predicted to respond dangerously."

The matter of the Turkish drone strike is on President Biden's desk at the White House, and according to Pentagon officials, the US is expected to retaliate strongly against Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan personally.

Researcher on Turkish affairs Soner Cagaptay said: "Relations between Turkey and the US are poor. Even at the expense of NATO, Turkey is considering its own interests. During this time, Turkey's antagonistic attitudes and actions have been readily apparent, and we think that this attitude will persist as long as Erdogan is president."

Nobody can tell how severe the US would make its sanctions against Turkey, but it is certain that the anticipated military cooperation and partnership between Washington and Ankara is ended.

President Biden's response to Turkey's attempt to deliberately kill US soldiers is currently being watched by the Pentagon and Congress. The current state of affairs in Congress suggests that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Defense Minister Hulusi Akar would be subject to a multitude of sanctions, significantly straining ties between Ankara and Washington.

Earlier, Washington Examiner magazine published a report prepared by journalist and researcher Michael Rubin about the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport, saying: "American intelligence detected the Turkish drones in the area shortly before and warned the Turks they were tracking Americans; the Turkish operators responded that they did not care."

"Finally, it is time to enhance military partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces, providing them with anti-aircraft weaponry as well as their own drones. They are simply a better ally," said the report.
