PUK Leadership Council
On Thursday, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Jalal Talabani chaired a meeting of the party's Leadership Council.
The Leadership Council held its regular meeting in the Leadership Conference Hall. After paying respects to the victims of the Halabja tragedy, which was an unprecedented act of oppression against the Kurdish people by the Ba'ath dictatorship, and after offering prayers for the souls of all the martyrs of Kurdistan, the council congratulated the province's resilient residents on the official decision to recognize Halabja as the 19th province of Iraq. The leadership of PUK also expressed gratitude to the federal government and stated that this action represents moral compensation for the citizens of the city, and it supports restitution for the repair and overall healing of Halabja's wounds.
The meeting also covered the political climate in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, focusing on the growing ties between the PUK and the political parties in Baghdad and the region. In this regard, President Bafel mentioned the accomplishments of the PUK leadership in the region and Iraq, which are the results of a single stance and determination, and which are now accepted as unquestionable facts by the PUK's allies both inside and outside the nation.
