President Rashid meets with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Baghdad
President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his accompanying delegation at Salam Palace in Baghdad.
President Rashid stressed the need to develop and strengthen relations as well as the significance of consolidating stability through peaceful solutions and productive dialogue, while they discussed potential ways to strengthen bilateral relations and prospects for cooperation between the two countries. They also reviewed recent developments in regional and international issues during the meeting.
President Rashid also emphasized the need of strengthening economic ties between the two nations, emphasizing the necessity for collaboration and dialogue on matters of shared concern, such as regional and global security and peace.
In this context, President Rashid emphasized the depth of relations between the two countries and appreciated Russia for its assistance to Iraq in its struggle against terrorism and efforts to ensure its security.
The Iraqi President emphasized the international community's support for the government in its efforts to maintain security and stability as well as improve public services, noting that Iraqis have suffered from wars and violence over the past decades, so the current stability and security across Iraqi cities are valued.
He emphasized that Iraq wants to establish balanced ties with every nation in the globe in a way that advances shared goals, noting that the government's policy promotes fostering ties of collaboration and friendship with everyone.
Mr. Lavrov, for his part, praised Iraq's stance in favor of diplomacy, crisis avoidance, and putting peace a higher priority than conflict.
Additionally, the Russian minister reaffirmed his nation's commitment to supporting Iraq and its sincere desire to deepen bilateral ties, broaden frameworks for economic and military cooperation, and rebuild infrastructure.
