Plasschaert to Bafel Talabani: the UN family mourns with you and Akam Omar's family

In a letter of condolence, the UN Special Representative for Iraq and the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert honor commander Akam Omar's devotion.

Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, conveyed her condolences to Bafel Jalal Talabani, the president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), following the passing of Akam Omar, the leader of the Kurdistan Commando Forces (KCF).

In her condolence letter, Plasschaert wrote:

"It is with great sadness that I learned of the untimely passing of your dear friend and leading Peshmerga commander, Mr. Akam Omar."

"I wish to convey our sincere condolences to you and his family for the loss, and in doing so, I would also like to pay due tribute to his dedication to fighting terrorism for the peace of his country and its people."

"At this time of grief, there is little that one can say to bring comfort or reassurance." It may nevertheless be some solace for you to know that the United Nations family mourns with you and his family."
