Kurdistan 04:03 PM - 2022-06-25

For the third day in a row, a new rocket attack targeted the Khor Mor gas fields in Qadir Karam sub-district, Chamchamal district in Slemani.

Our correspondent in Chamchamal said that another rocket was fired from an unknown location at the Khor Mor gas fields.

The damage is still unknown and police and security forces have arrived at the scene to investigate.

The Khor Mor gas field, run by UAE-based Dana Gas in Chamchamal district of Slemani governorate was previously targeted by rocket attacks on Friday and Thursday as well. The previous attack didn't result in any damage to the field. No group has so far claimed responsibility for any of the attacks.

Iraqi forces launched a military operation earlier on Saturday within the borders of the Khor Mor gas field.

A source in the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) told PUKmedia that the operation is aimed at clearing those areas that lie within the borders of the federal forces, explaining that the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces are not participating in the operation.

The source pointed out that the operation comes after the rocket attacks on the Khor Mor gas field.

The Khor Mor gas project, one of the largest in Kurdistan, usually produces around 450 MMcf/d of gas.

The Kurdistan Region has been facing an unprecedented scale of rocket and drone attacks since the beginning of the year. On June 8, a drone armed with explosives hit a road in northeast Erbil and lightly injured three civilians in the city of Erbil.
