On the eighth anniversary of the disappearance of Kamaran Najm, Metrography Agency will hold the first annual Kamaran Awards in Slemani to celebrate his work and legacy.
Sartip Osman, a photographer at Metrography Agency, said in a press statement, "to support photographers and provide a competitive environment for photographic work and reveal hidden talents, we have been preparing and inviting photographers, videographers, and journalists from all over the world for more than a year to participate in the Kamaran Awards with their works and submit their projects."
The Kamran Award consists of two awards: $12,000 to a journalist, foreign or local, to support a long-term coverage project, and the Kamran Memorial Award which will be given to the family of a photographer who went missing during coverage.
A number of judges consisting of experts will evaluate the works and impartially decide who will be the winners of this year's awards, which will be announced tomorrow at the ceremony.
The Kamran Awards will be held for the first time this year and will be an annual ceremony organized by the Metrography Agency for all photographers, videographers, and journalists who want to innovate and serve in their profession.
The Kamran Award is named after the photographer and founder of the Metrography Agency Kamran Najm, who was wounded and Kidnapped by ISIS on 12/6/2014 while he was covering a battle between Peshmerga forces and ISIS terrorists in the Mala Abdullah area west of Kirkuk city and he has not been found since then.
