Bafel Jalal Talabani: We must leave slogans and serve the people of Halabja

On Wednesday, Bafel Jalal Talabani issued a statement on the 34th anniversary of the Halabja massacre, in which he stressed the need to serve the people of Halabja.

Bafel Jalal Talabani's statement:

Today we are witnessing the 34th anniversary of attacking the steadfast city of Halabja with chemical weapons. With great pain, we commemorate this great tragedy that the people of Kurdistan were exposed to.

On this day, we must leave slogans and serve the people of Halabja. Our national responsibility is to treat the impacts of this wound and restore hope to the people of Halabja. The Federal Government must deal with the Halabja governorate with greater responsibility and compensate the families of the martyrs and injured.

I call on the Kurdistan Regional Government to take the demands of the people of the beloved city of Halabja and to provide them with greater services, and the injustice and treachery that the city of Halabja has been subjected to must become a lesson to strengthen the spirit of unity and harmony between us.

The Kurdish political leadership must know that no matter how we differ in our vision and our view of politics, we share the pain, and we must work so that our citizens are not exposed to hardships and tragedies again.

We must treat the precious people of Kurdistan equally and provide them with the best services. 

Our Freedom and the constitutional institutions in the Kurdistan Region are the results of the blood of the martyrs and the struggle of the citizens. 

Our mission is to take responsibility for the lives of the citizens and remain loyal to their sacrifices.
