Bafel Talabani: PUK wants the Kurds to have a unified voice in Baghdad

Bafel Jalal Talabani on Thursday received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov in Political Bureau's office in Erbil.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Russian Ambassador to Iraq and the Russian Consul General  in the Kurdistan Region, the current situation was assessed, and views were exchanged on the political and economic developments, while emphasis was placed on coordination between the two sides.

Also, the historical role of President Mam Jalal in building strong relations between the Kurdistan Region  and Russia was appreciated.

Bafel Jalal Talabani stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the two sides, especially in the fields of confronting terrorism, trade and supporting the rights of the Kurdish people. In this regard, Bafel Jalal Talabani claimed, "the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is enthusiastic to build balanced relations that serves the Kurdistan Region," calling on the Russian entrepreneurs to invest in the Kurdistan Region.

Later in the meeting, Bafel Jalal Talabani said that "in light of the situation in Iraq after the elections, the PUK wants the Kurds to have a unified voice in Baghdad in order to defend the Kurds' constitutional rights and work to form a government that serves the public."

Talabani emphasized the importance of national consensus saying, "if consensus is not achieved, the political conflicts will direct the situation in the country towards more instability."

In another aspect of the meeting, the political developments in Syria were discussed, and Talabani said, "we support solving the Kurdish issue in Syria through peaceful dialogue," expressing the PUK's insistence on supporting the Kurds in Western Kurdistan and helping General Mazloum Abdi in his struggle to achieve the Kurds' rights and overcome the crises.
