Venezuela Earthquake.
The death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to nearly 1,500, as emergency crews continue searching for survivors and authorities assess the full scale of the destruction.
Officials said almost 1,500 people have now been confirmed dead, while more than 50,000 people remain unaccounted for. Authorities cautioned that many of those reported missing may have been displaced or unable to contact relatives, though rescue operations remain focused on locating those who may still be trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
The powerful earthquakes caused widespread devastation across several parts of the country, with the Caribbean coastal state of La Guaira among the hardest-hit areas. More than 770 buildings have either collapsed or sustained severe structural damage, leaving thousands of residents homeless and forcing many others into temporary shelters.
Search and rescue efforts have intensified, with more than 2,600 international rescue workers joining Venezuelan emergency teams. Despite the challenging conditions, rescuers have managed to pull at least 33 people alive from the rubble in recent days, offering hope that more survivors may yet be found.
Authorities said electricity has been restored to much of the affected region, although essential services remain disrupted in several communities. Humanitarian assistance, including food, drinking water, medical supplies and temporary shelter, continues to arrive from international partners as relief efforts expand.
The disaster has placed immense pressure on emergency services and healthcare facilities, with hospitals treating thousands of people injured in the earthquakes. Engineers are continuing to inspect damaged infrastructure, while officials have urged residents to remain cautious because of the risk posed by aftershocks and unstable buildings.
The twin earthquakes are among the deadliest natural disasters to hit Venezuela in recent decades, prompting a large-scale international humanitarian response. Rescue teams have warned that the number of casualties could continue to rise as recovery operations progress and access is gained to areas that remain cut off by the destruction.
