On Wednesday, 10 June 2026, President Nizar Amedi hosted a meeting at Baghdad Palace attended by Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi, Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi and President of Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan. The four leaders reviewed the country’s political, security and economic situation, alongside the latest regional developments.

The participants stressed the importance of accelerating the formation of the new cabinet, noting that this would enhance the effectiveness of government institutions, strengthen the implementation of the ministerial programme and help achieve its objectives. They also underlined the need to continue supporting government efforts to deliver development plans, improve public services and meet the needs of citizens across all governorates.

The four leaders highlighted the importance of passing key legislation and updating investment laws to improve government performance, strengthen state institutions, advance reform efforts and promote the public interest.

The meeting reaffirmed that the state must retain the exclusive right to use force, describing it as a fundamental pillar of the rule of law and state authority. The participants welcomed the positions and measures taken by groups and forces that have formally severed their links with the Popular Mobilisation Forces in accordance with the Constitution and the law. They further stressed that all security and military decisions must remain solely under the authority of the Iraqi state and its constitutional institutions, led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in order to safeguard security, stability, national unity and sovereignty.

The attendees also emphasised the vital role of the judiciary in upholding the law, prosecuting those involved in corruption, attacks on state institutions or threats to national security, and ensuring the protection of constitutional order, citizens’ rights and the principles of justice and the rule of law.

On economic matters, the participants underscored the importance of maintaining financial stability, strengthening the national economy and diversifying sources of income to reduce dependence on oil revenues. They called for greater development of the industrial, agricultural, productive and tourism sectors, increased support for domestic and foreign investment, and a stronger role for the private sector in driving economic growth. They reiterated their backing for government efforts to implement economic reforms and achieve sustainable development.

On regional and international issues, the four leaders reaffirmed Iraq’s consistent position in favour of an immediate end to hostilities and the prevention of further escalation across the region. They stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving disputes, warning that ongoing conflicts threaten regional security and stability while negatively affecting the global economy, energy security and international trade.

The meeting also reiterated Iraq’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security and stability, while rejecting the use of Iraqi territory for attacks against any country in a manner that could undermine regional security. The participants further emphasised the importance of strengthening relations and cooperation with Arab and Islamic countries in ways that serve shared interests and contribute to regional stability.
