Iraqi Parliament Sets Date to Vote on New Federal Government

The Iraqi Parliament announced on Wednesday the date for a parliamentary vote on the new federal government headed by Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi.

In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Parliament’s Media Office said lawmakers will convene for the 24th parliamentary session on Thursday, 14 May 2026, to vote on the government programme and cabinet proposed by Prime Minister-designate Ali Falih al-Zaidi.

President Nizar Amedi officially tasked Mr al-Zaidi, the nominee of the largest parliamentary bloc, with forming the new government during a ceremony held at Baghdad Palace on Monday, 27 April 2026.

The ceremony was attended by Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi, Chief Justice Faiq Zaidan, and a number of leaders from the Coordination Framework.
