Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, held talks with the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Begard Talabani, alongside a number of senior ministry officials and directors-general, to explore ways of advancing the agricultural sector and tackling the marketing difficulties farmers face with their wheat harvest.
At the meeting, which took place in Erbil on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, the agriculture minister delivered a report outlining the ministry’s work and achievements under the ninth cabinet, highlighting notable progress in developing the sector compared with previous administrations.
Qubad Talabani praised the minister and ministry staff for their efforts, noting their contribution to strengthening agriculture in the Region. He remarked that these efforts have helped shift the Kurdistan Region from reliance on imports towards domestic production, with local agricultural goods now reaching markets across Iraq. He also underlined the importance of preparing to integrate modern technologies and artificial intelligence into the sector’s development.
Addressing the issue of wheat marketing for farmers, he stressed that their concerns would be a priority in discussions with the federal government, aiming to safeguard their rights and ensure timely payment of their entitlements.
