Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has welcomed the appointment of Ali al-Zaidi as Iraq’s Prime Minister-designate, reaffirming Tehran’s respect for Iraq’s sovereignty and its support for the country’s political stability.

In a post on the X platform, Araqchi said: “I welcome the decision of the Coordination Framework to nominate a prime minister, and I extend my congratulations to Ali Faleh al-Zaidi on his appointment, wishing him success in forming a government and serving the Iraqi people.”

He further emphasised Iran’s respect for “Iraq’s sovereignty and its support for political stability, development, and enhanced cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of both nations.”
