Trump Congratulates PM-Designate, Invites Him to Washington in Phone Call

Prime Minister-designate Ali Falih al-Zaidi received a phone call on Thursday from Donald Trump.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister-designate’s media office, the US President congratulated al-Zaidi on his official nomination to form the new government and extended a formal invitation for him to visit Washington following its formation.

The statement added that the call included a review of strategic bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States, as well as ways to strengthen and expand cooperation across various fields. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to joint efforts and bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening regional stability.

Separately, al-Zaidi also received a phone call on Thursday from US envoy Tom Barrack, who likewise congratulated him on his formal designation to form the new government.

During the call, the two sides discussed avenues for enhancing Iraq–US relations and boosting cooperation in multiple areas, in a way that supports and deepens the strategic partnership between the two countries.
