The United States, France, United Kingdom and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation have welcomed the appointment of Ali al-Zaidi as Iraq’s Prime Minister-designate, expressing support for his efforts to form a new government.

The U.S. Mission in Iraq extended its best wishes to al-Zaidi as he works to establish a government capable of fulfilling the hopes of Iraqis for a brighter and more peaceful future. It said it stood in solidarity with the people of Iraq in safeguarding sovereignty, promoting security free from terrorism, and building prosperity that benefits both Iraqis and Americans.

Patrick Durel, France’s ambassador to Iraq, also congratulated al-Zaidi on his appointment, saying France stands alongside Iraq in supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability, reforms and development for the benefit of all Iraqis.

Meanwhile, Irfan Siddiq, the British ambassador, said the United Kingdom welcomed the appointment and wished al-Zaidi success in swiftly forming a new government. The statement added that London looked forward to working with the new administration on urgent challenges facing Iraq, particularly in the areas of security and the economy.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has welcomed the appointment of Ali al-Zaidi, expressing readiness to cooperate with his incoming government. The OIC Mission in Iraq said it hopes to work closely with the new administration to support stability, development, and a stronger regional and international role for Iraq, while wishing al-Zaidi success during a critical phase requiring careful leadership.

The statements reflect broad international backing for Iraq’s government formation process and hopes for greater stability, reform and economic progress.
