The General Secretariat of Iraq's ruling Coordination Framework has called for a meeting to be held on Monday to finalise the nomination for the position of Prime Minister.

In a statement, the Secretariat said the meeting will take place at the office of Mr. Ammar al-Hakim, adding that the agenda will be limited to concluding discussions on the nomination process.

Meanwhile, MP Firas al-Muslawi, spokesperson for the Reconstruction and Development parliamentary bloc, said the meeting aims to strengthen national consensus and bring an end to the ongoing political deadlock.

He noted that the bloc is pushing for the talks to serve as a starting point for forming a national service government that reflects the aspirations of the Iraqi people and operates free from political obstruction.

Dr. Bryar Rashid, lawmaker of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Iraqi parliament, told PUKMEDIA earlier that, according to constitutional provisions, the Coordination Framework—as the largest parliamentary bloc—has 15 days following the election of the President of the Republic to present its nominee for prime minister.

He added that this step follows the election of the President, which he described as an important milestone in resolving the legal vacuum, paving the way for the formation of a new federal government.

Iraq recently elected its president after nearly five months of political deadlock following the parliamentary elections. Under the constitutional process, political parties must now nominate a prime minister to form the next government. In line with long-standing political agreements, the post of prime minister is traditionally allocated to the country’s Shia parties.
