The State Oil Marketing Organisation (SOMO) has confirmed that all sides are working to extend the landmark agreement governing oil exports from the Kurdistan Region.
In remarks to Al-Sabah newspaper, SOMO Director General Nizar al-Shatri said the agreement, which allows the Kurdistan Region’s oil to be marketed through the national company, has proven successful. He pointed to the government’s decision to extend the deal until the end of March as evidence of its effectiveness.
Al-Shatri stressed that the agreement can be renewed provided all parties remain committed to its success, noting that it has brought in additional revenue for the country and helped organise and regulate export operations under the national marketing framework.
The Federal Ministry of Oil had earlier announced, on 27 September 2025, the resumption of crude oil exports from the Kurdistan Region via the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline.
In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the ministry said export operations began at 6:00 a.m. on that date and proceeded smoothly without any technical difficulties, describing this as a reflection of successful cooperation between the federal and regional governments.
