The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has announced the seizure of 64 kilograms of dangerous narcotics and the arrest of a suspect inside Iranian territory, carried out in coordination with the Iranian authorities.

In a statement reviewed by PUKMEDIA, the Ministry said the operation was conducted by the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances under the direct supervision of the Minister of Interior and following the necessary legal approvals. The seizure was made possible through effective international security coordination with the Iranian side.

According to the statement, the operation took place in the city of Abadan and was executed by a specialised unit from the General Directorate for Narcotics Affairs, working closely with the Iranian Anti-Narcotics Directorate. The Ministry described the action as part of joint efforts to combat the cross-border drug trade.

The Ministry of Interior stressed that joint security cooperation based on international agreements and treaties with friendly countries has proven effective in dealing strong blows to drug trafficking networks and preventing the spread of narcotics that threaten the security and stability of society.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to continuing this approach in order to protect citizens and preserve social peace.
