Over 9,400 Inmates Released Under General Amnesty Law

The Iraqi Ministry of Justice has announced the release of 9,410 prisoners since the implementation of the General Amnesty Law across Baghdad and other governorates.

According to a statement obtained by PUKMEDIA, the move reflects efforts to enforce the law and uphold justice throughout the country. The Ministry confirmed that all releases followed completion of the necessary legal procedures and the issuance of final judicial decisions.

The statement highlighted that the process was carried out under the directives of Minister of Justice Khalid Shwani, aiming to facilitate and expedite implementation of the law. It also emphasised the close coordination between the Iraqi Correctional Service and relevant legal committees, in consultation with the Supreme Judicial Council, to ensure judicial rulings were accurately executed in accordance with the General Amnesty Law.

This latest release marks a significant step in Iraq’s ongoing judicial reforms and the enforcement of legal provisions intended to advance justice and fairness.
