The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) extended their New Year’s wishes in a message, hoping for democratic advancements in 2025.
The following is the full text of the message:
We extend our heartfelt congratulations on the New Year to our people, the diverse communities of Iraq, and the world at large. We hope the coming year will be one of peace, reconstruction, justice, and the fulfilment of legitimate rights, particularly concerning the Kurdish issue in the Middle East. May this be achieved through political dialogue, peace, and democracy amidst the changes unfolding in the surrounding region.
We aspire for the New Year to bring progress in the standard of living for the people of Kurdistan and to help overcome the ongoing crises between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad—most notably the matter of salaries in accordance with Federal Court rulings, without intertwining these with political disputes.
On this occasion, the PUK reaffirms its dedication to reforming governance and restoring balance in our political experience. As pledged to our people, we commit to pursuing this goal throughout 2025, through legitimate means, striving towards a responsible, service-oriented government and an effective, democratic, and enduring political process.
We hope that 2025 will mark a significant advancement in democratic practices within our nation and the consolidation of constitutional rights for the Kurdish people.
