Dara Khailany: Luis Ayala Reaffirms Support for PUK Leadership

Former Socialist International Secretary-General Luis Ayala’s recent visit to Sulaymaniyah reaffirmed support for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the progress made in the Kurdistan Region. During the visit, Ayala paid tribute to the late President Mam Jalal, reflecting on his enduring legacy of advancing democracy.

 

Khailany: Ayala's Visit Reaffirms support for President Bafel

 

Dara Khailany, a member of the Leadership Council and Head of the Foreign Relations Department for the PUK, told PUKMEDIA: "The visit of former Socialist International Secretary-General Luis Ayala to the PUK was a reaffirmation of support for Bafel Jalal Talabani and his leadership. According to Khailany, Mr. Ayala also expressed optimism regarding the progress that has been made in the Kurdistan Region."

Khailany added: "As one of the founders of the Global Progressive Alliance, the PUK maintains very friendly relations with social democratic parties around the world, particularly those within the Socialist International."

Khailany stated that President Bafel is proudly one of the nine co-presidents of the Global Progressive Alliance. He added, "The Alliance will work alongside social democratic parties worldwide to improve the quality of life for people across the globe."

 

Luis Ayala Visits President Mam Jalal's Grave in Sulaymaniyah

On Monday, 9th December 2024, Mr. Ayala visited the grave of President Mam Jalal. He was welcomed by Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir and Dara Khailany. After laying a bouquet of flowers, Mr. Ayala wrote a tribute in the memorial book, highlighting President Mam Jalal's significant contributions and dedication to advancing socialism and democracy.

In his message, Mr. Ayala reflected on President Mam Jalal's tireless efforts as a politician and global leader. He concluded by expressing pride in President Talabani's legacy and sacrifices, which he described as invaluable to humanity.

 

Ayala & Mam Jalal: A Shared Commitment to Democracy

Luis Ayala is a Chilean politician who served as the Secretary-General of the Socialist International, a global network of socialist and social democratic parties. He is best known for advocating for democratic socialism, human rights, and social justice worldwide. Ayala’s work involved supporting various political parties and leaders, emphasising the need for inclusive governance and economic systems that serve the public good.

During his tenure, Ayala worked closely with various political figures, including President Jalal Talabani. Their relationship was particularly significant in the early 2000s when the Socialist International visited Iraq in 2003, following the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime. Ayala expressed full support for Iraq’s democratic transition and President Talabani’s role in fostering unity among Iraq’s ethnic and political groups.
