The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has raised the slogan of correcting the course of governance during its campaign for the elections of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament. Following the elections, the PUK aims to implement this slogan in order to secure a fair and dignified life for the Kurdistan Region’s citizens.
A member of the PUK’s Leadership Council has stated that these campaign slogans reflect the party's deep commitment to serving citizens without discrimination, and its determination to shoulder responsibility without retreat.
The PUK Implements Its Election Slogans
Feryal Abdullah, a member of the PUK Leadership Council, said in an interview with PUKMEDIA, saying: "The main slogan of our election campaign was correcting the course of governance. This slogan arises from our commitment to assume responsibility, as we believe the previous government was heading in the wrong direction, prioritising the interests of a particular family. The head of the regional government had been practising discriminatory policies between regions." She continued, "The PUK is determined in its pledge to correct the course of governance, ensuring that the next administration is fair, service-oriented, and truly represents the people's aspirations."
She added that the PUK will take concrete steps to implement its election promises once the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet is formed, noting that the party's votes surged by 97%, a clear sign of public trust. "The next government must be one for all citizens, without discrimination between provinces or regions."
A Firm Commitment to Slogans
Khidhir Mustafa, another member of the PUK Leadership Council, also spoke to PUKMEDIA, emphasising that the significant increase in the PUK’s vote share reflects the confidence citizens have placed in the party.
He stated, "With the support of the people, we were able to secure a large percentage of the votes, and this is a clear reflection of public trust. Therefore, under the leadership of President Bafel Jalal Talabani, the PUK is committed to fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign. This commitment was reaffirmed in the meetings of the Political Bureau and the Leadership Council."
Mustafa further said, "The PUK was the first party to recognise the need to correct the course of governance in the Kurdistan Region. The deviation of authority and government in the region from the correct path has weakened the Region and harmed the citizens due to the poor actions of the government. As a result, the PUK has emphasised the need to restore balance, correct governance, and end authoritarianism. We have made numerous sacrifices for the sake of freedom and ensuring a decent life for all citizens."
