The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is preparing to submit a draft law to the Iraqi parliament aimed at providing both moral and material compensation to those impacted by the Türkiye bombing operations in the Badinan regions.
Compensation for Those Impacted
A senior source from the PUK informed PUKMEDIA: "The draft law aims to provide compensation to those affected by the military operations conducted by the Turkish army in the Badinan region."
He further stated: "These Turkish military operations are occurring in collaboration with the Kurdistan Democratic Party and have inflicted significant harm on the lives and livelihoods of the local residents."
The PUK Bloc Aims to Pass the Draft Law
In this context, Dr. Bryar Rashid, a representative of the PUK bloc, told PUKMEDIA: "We are actively preparing the draft law, and once it is finalised, we will gather the necessary signatures to ensure its passage in the Iraqi parliament. We are in ongoing communication with the relevant organisations to gather essential information about the human and material losses in those areas."
He added: "The PUK bloc is continually working with the relevant authorities in the federal government to provide compensation for those affected in the Badinan region."
80 Areas are Bombed in the Kurdistan Region
A report by the American organisation Community Peacemaker Team (CPT) revealed that over the past ten months, Türkiye had bombed 82 areas within the Kurdistan Region and operates 64 camps and security centres in the provinces of Erbil and Duhok.
Kamaran Othman, a member of the Kurdistan team at the organisation, told PUKMEDIA, "The government's silence and the support given to Turkish operations have undermined security and stability in the Kurdistan Region. Since 2015, 147 citizens have lost their lives, and 219 others have been injured due to these military actions."
According to the organisation, 59% of the fatalities are from Duhok Governorate, 24% from Erbil, 7.8% from Sulaymaniyah, and 9.2% from Shingal.
