The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) coalitions and lists for provincial council elections aim to clean up the environment in Iraqi provinces. As a result, the PUK attempts to present environmental pollution and rehabilitation projects to the provincial councils' presidency.
According to the PUK's lists and coalitions' agenda, "In addition to working to open colleges and environmental departments in universities, we are working to clean up the urban environment, plant trees, and improve gardens and greenery. By doing so, we can improve public health and create a cleaner environment."
The PUK is constructing a Greenway in Kirkuk
Kirkuk's coalition No. 142 candidate, Shaho Rozhbayani, ranked No. 23, told PUKMEDIA: "Due to the numerous refineries in the province of Kirkuk, the air is getting more and more contaminated every day. Our coalition has plans to work toward cleaning up the city's environment in the future."
"To significantly improve the overall condition of the city's environment, we aim to establish a green belt in Kirkuk and plant trees around the province. Furthermore, in compensation for their environmental pollution, we intend to have the refineries assume responsibility for their actions and contribute to the city's environmental cleanup," he added.
PUK candidates made the environmental cleanup effort a top focus
PUK candidates in Diyala are focusing on greening and planting trees in disputed areas, as well as keeping the environment clean.
Asuda Mohammed, the PUK's Diyala list's 16th candidate, told PUKMEDIA, "Our priorities include planting trees, organizing sanitation projects in local towns and cities, and keeping an eye on the environment." We are also working to make the area more green."
"We'll keep the province's environment fresh, pay close attention to how the tourism industry and surrounding area develop, and hope to establish an environmental college or institute in Khanaqin." However, in order for everyone to contribute to keeping the environment clean and increasing the amount of greenery in Diyala province, we are working on launching environmental awareness classes," Asuda said.
PUK prioritizes tourism and greenery
Nineveh's coalition's goals include increasing the amount of greenery and submitting proposals to provincial councils to ensure the environmental safety of these areas. Another aspect of the task will be to consider tourism-related initiatives.
Mohammed Hassan, candidate No. 19 for the Alliance of the People of Nineveh No. 134, told PUKMEDIA: "Due to the high population density, numerous factories, and refineries in Nineveh, one of Iraq's largest provinces, the province is becoming increasingly polluted; as a result, our alliance intends to work toward cleaning it up."
He further added: "A key component of our alliance's agenda and program in Nineveh is increasing green space and giving attention to the tourism industry; to this end, we will propose projects to the provincial council, which will also serve as a reason to maintain the cleanliness of the city. We also intend to be strong supporters of environmental organizations to safeguard the province from future disasters."
One million tree planting initiative will now include the Iraqi provinces
The PUK has always taken the lead in environmental protection to maintain a clean environment and promote the health of its residents. It recently announced a campaign to plant one million trees across the Kurdistan Region's provinces. PUK hopes to expand this effort to the disputed provinces in the future to prevent environmental damage there.
As it has always been concerned with the environment, the PUK is now working to improve the environment in disputed areas through Iraqi provincial councils and provide residents with a better quality of life. PUK seeks to assist the Iraqi environment by using its lists and coalitions in disputed areas because it recognizes the importance of maintaining a clean environment and the health of its residents.
