Iraqi president: The government works on resolving outstanding issues between Baghdad, Erbil

The unresolved concerns between the federal government and the government in Erbil are being worked on, the president of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, confirmed on Tuesday.

This occurred at a meeting between the Iraqi President and a delegation from the EU Mission to Iraq that took place on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Baghdad's Al-Salam Palace.

In addition to "working to resolve outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan region and approving pending draft laws," Mr. President assured the EU that the Iraqi government has a strategy of opening up to nations around the world and strengthening relations with the international community. Its program emphasizes infrastructure in several sectors related to citizen needs.

The President also emphasized the value of strong ties between Iraq and the EU and the need to deepen them in areas of mutual interest, while also pointing out that while Iraq had previously experienced a number of internal and external issues, it is now in a better position, particularly in terms of security.

Furthermore, he highlighted how important it is for the world to understand the true state of affairs in Iraq and the changes that are occurring there, as this will help to boost foreign investment and the country's private sector.

The EU team shared their desire to deepen their connection with Iraq in the areas of training and consultation, collaboration in the cultural sector, and showcasing Iraq's historic civilization to the outside world. The delegation also praised the country's progress.
