The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) has announced that Iraqi citizens currently abroad will be able to return to Iraq via Basra International Airport as of Sunday, 15 June 2025.

In an official statement issued on Facebook, ICAA Chairman Bangin Rekani confirmed that Basra International Airport would reopen, with all airlines receiving instructions regarding the procedures for repatriating Iraqi nationals and tourists.

“Other airports will remain closed until further notice,” Rekani stated.

Regarding travel to Türkiye, the Chairman explained: “Visas will be issued at Istanbul Airport for those entering the country, or for those wishing to travel to Türkiye by land, in coordination with the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara.”

The announcement follows the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation’s decision to suspend all flights at Iraqi airports and temporarily close the country’s airspace as of 13 June 2025, due to heightened security tensions in the region resulting from the Israeli-Iranian conflict.

Although Iraqi airspace remains closed, the government continues its efforts to facilitate the safe return of its citizens from abroad.
