Iraq 10:34 AM - 2022-07-13

The Commander of Iraq's Air Force, Lieutenant-General Shihab Jahid, confirmed that the Iraqi air fleet is sufficient to accomplish the main tasks and support the security units and secure the borders.

"The number of the Iraqi air fleet is sufficient in terms of combat aircraft, reconnaissance, and transport missions, and the Air Force has enough to accomplish the main task, which is protecting the land, water, and sky of Iraq," Lieutenant-General Jahid said in a press statement, stressing that "the Iraqi Air Force is able to support the security units and secure adequate protection of the borders of Iraq."

Along with praising the air force, Jahid didn't deny the insufficiencies and challenges they face.

"There are common challenges between the air force and air defense," he said, noting that "in all countries of the world and all air defense systems, there must be the right factors and infrastructure to secure the protection of the homeland."

He also pointed out that "the air force needs modern, advanced equipment to detect violations, if they exist, at the borders with neighboring countries."

On the role of the international coalition whose mission currently is mainly advisory, Jahid said, "The support of the coalition forces is currently some duties," stressing that "the Air Force Command is able to meet any request to provide air support for any duty and anywhere within the map of the Iraqi state."
