On Monday, a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdish Left Party in Syria described the Fifth Congress of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) as  successful in light of Turkish threats to invade north and east Syria.

Fathallah Hosseini,  a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdish Left Party in Syria, said in a statement to PUKmedia that HDP's fifth congress saw large crowds and wide participation, explaining that it was successful, especially in light of the continuous Turkish threats against north and east Syria.

"The success of such an opposition party and their slogan at the congress “With our presence, stability is achieved” shows that there is no stability in Turkey without an effective opposition and that the conference is a great gain for the Kurds to play a positive role in formulating the Turkish decision, even though the decision is in the hands of one person, Erdogan, who threatens and mobilizes Military operations at any moment," he said.

He also emphasized that HDP's Fifth Congress was held under exceptional circumstances where Kurdistani parties were prevented from attending, noting that the success of the congress will be reflected on Turkey first and then the whole region.

On Sunday, the HDP concluded its fifth congress to elect new leadership in the presence of 400 organizations and political and party figures and with the participation of 50,000 members, while the right to vote was granted to 1,050 party members.

The congress was launched in the Arna Gymnasium in the city of Ankara.

Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar were re-elected as co-chairs with 797 votes.

The HDP is generally left-wing and places a strong emphasis on participatory and radical democracy, feminism, LGBT rights, minority rights, youth rights, and egalitarianism.
