Eight Kurdish students studying at the American University of Iraq - Sulaimani (AUIS) built a solar-powered car for their final research to graduate from the university.
Zaria Yarwais, who studies Energy Engineering and is head of the research group, told PUKmedia that she built the car with 7 other students.
According to Yarwais, the car has 8 horse powers. It is in the shape of a water drop and runs on 3 tires and can carry three people or more. It weighs 350 kg.
The car is intended to be used for transportation in resorts or tourist places. It is environmentally friendly and consumes solar energy which comes from the sun and stores it in 6 dry batteries.
"We aspire to develop this car in the future if the capabilities or support from any government or private entity are available," Yarwais said.
"Because we see that the future is heading towards clean energy, as fuel prices are increasing year after year and some countries have issued future decisions to ban liquid-fueled vehicles and support cars that run on clean and environmentally friendly energy, including solar energy, which is one of the best ways to preserve the environment," she added.
