Kurdistan 10:39 PM - 2022-06-29

The Kurdistan Council of Ministers held its weekly meeting headed by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and discussed several topics on its agenda.

The following is the Council of Ministers' full statement:

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister, on behalf of the Council of Ministers, offered his sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the two martyrs, Professor Dr. Kawan Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Salahaddin University, and Dr. Idris Hama Khan, a professor at the College of Engineering at Salahaddin University.

The Prime Minister indicated that he directed the Ministry of Interior and the security services to take the necessary measures against the criminal, ordered them to collect unlicensed weapons, and also stressed that the courts should expedite taking legal measures against criminals and punish them as an example to those who think about committing such crimes.

After that, the Prime Minister addressed the issue of repeated terrorist attacks on citizens and the economic infrastructure of the Kurdistan Region in recent months and explained that the aim behind these attacks is to harm financial and economic resources and disrupt the investment process in the region. As a result, the Council of Ministers instructed the ministries and authorities to carry out their duty to protect the national facilities of the region, especially as it is a source for providing salaries and public expenses.

The Prime Minister indicated that the federal government deprived the Kurdistan Region of its financial dues, as it sent only 13 months out of the 26 months with 200 billion dinars as an advance, while it reduced the region's share of the budget in all its financial obligations.

The Council of Ministers repeated that the Kurdistan Regional Government is committed to the constitution and is always ready to agree with the federal government and solve problems based on the constitution and transparency, and it has provided all information about revenues, expenditures, debts, and staffing to the Iraqi Financial Supervision Bureau team. Therefore, no solution outside the constitution will be accepted.

The Council of Ministers called on the federal government and the Ministry of Oil to stop the unfair pressures on international investors in the oil and gas sector in the region, which, as a federal state, must support the development and economic prosperity in the region, and not exert undue pressure to disrupt this recovery.

The Kurdistan Regional Government will also defend the financial dues of the Kurdistan Region and its constitutional rights by all means, as a legal body is conducting its preparations in this regard.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister said that they had sufficient information about the party that launched attacks on the Khor Mor gas plant, indicating that a comprehensive investigation was conducted to take measures against it.

Qubad Talabani stated, “The attacks affected the Khor Mor field expansion project and not the part that produces gas at present to meet the needs of citizens.”

Talabani also stressed the importance of cooperation with the media and providing information.

The Council of Ministers called on the Kurdish media to deal responsibly and professionally when covering events and work according to press standards, and not to be a platform for spreading fear, panic, intimidation, chaos, violence, and threat to national security.
