Mam Jalal's house in Baghdad: A place to bring together Iraqi parties

Iraq 12:31 PM - 2022-06-28

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received the leaders of the Coordination Framework, including Nuri al-Maliki, Hadi al-Amiri, Qais al-Khazali, Muthanna al-Samarrai, head of the Azim Alliance, and Rayan al-Kildani, head of the Babylon Movement.

President Bafel arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday evening amid ongoing negotiations to reach an agreement to form the next Iraqi government.

The new meeting discussed the latest developments in the formation of the new Iraqi government and emphasized the need to form a strong government that can overcome the challenges and obstacles.

It also called for accelerated efforts to form a service-oriented national government that works to build a stable future and provide services at all levels. They also emphasized that the legal and constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq should be protected.

The meeting was the latest in a series of meetings made by President Bafel to Baghdad to reach understandings with Iraqi parties to form the government.

More than 6 months after the early elections of Iraq, the country has only been able to elect the Parliament Presidency. The political parties have failed to reach an agreement on electing the new president and forming the government.

PUK MP: Mam Jalal's house in Baghdad place for bringing together the political parties

MP Sozan Mansour, the spokesperson for the PUK bloc in the Iraqi parliament, confirmed on Tuesday that the PUK has focused on dialogue since the beginning of the political crisis in Iraq.

"We believe that dialogue is the only solution to resolving the current political crisis,"  MP Mansour told PUKmedia, noting that "the coming days will witness a solution to the political crisis in Iraq and a strong service government will be formed as soon as possible."

"President Mam Jalal was always a collector of political parties, and no matter how big the problems were between forces, blocs, and political leaders, Mam Jalal's house was the place to bring together all political parties," MP Mansour told PUKmedia

"President Bafel Talabani and his brother Qubad Talabani are the two sons of President Mam Jalal and are carrying on on his path," she added.

"As we saw in the past few days, Mam Jalal's house has once again become the gathering place for political parties, and we see that President Bafel Talabani brings together the political parties and completes the role of his father," she said.

The PUK has a strategic role in resolving crises

In an interview with PUKmedia, Iraqi political analyst Ibrahim al-Sarraj said: "The role of the PUK, headed by Bafel Talabani, represents a cornerstone in the political process and is based on resolving differences between political forces."

"The PUK is greatly accepted and is seen as a considered and solid political bloc in dealing with national issues," he added. "The party has a significant strategic role in resolving the crisis and bringing views closer.

"The large, rapid, and conscious participation of the PUK represents a lifeline for the political process in Iraq," he said.
