PUK responds to KDP's statement

Kurdistan 05:28 PM - 2022-01-24

The spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Amin Baba Sheikh, on Monday responded to the statement issued by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Amin Baba Sheikh said that the aim of yesterday's Leadership Council meeting was to clarify the facts, stressing that the PUK focused its efforts towards unity and having a unified national project while holding dialogues with the Shiite and Sunni political parties in Iraq.

"Unfortunately the Kurdistan Democratic Party entered into an agreement with some other parties, and this does not serve the political process in Iraq and the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people," he added.

Baba Sheikh also indicated that Bafel Talabani and the delegation of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan held dialogues with the Kurdistan Democratic Party and clearly showed the PUK's points of interest, while unfortunately, the delegation of the Kurdistan Democratic Party was entering the meetings with unclear goals.

He continued, "here we remind the Kurdistan Democratic Party that we do not have yet a final agreement with them, because they did not clarify what they wanted and wanted to have a non-transparent agreement with us."

On the re-nomination of Dr. Barham Ahmed Salih for the Iraqi Presidency, the spokesman of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan said, "our insistence is because he will be the protector of the federal constitution of Iraq and the protector of the interests of the Iraqi people and the Kurdistan Region."
