Kurdistan 10:51 AM - 2021-12-04

Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) Dr. Ali al-Qaradaghi, condemned the terrorist attack carried out by ISIS terrorist organization on the Makhmur district.

Dr. Ali Al-Qardaghi said in a tweet on Twitter, "The terrorist operation carried out by ISIS terrorist organization in the Kurdistan Region is condemned according to all national, religious, national, and humanitarian standards, that compromising the security of societies does not serve Islam."

"May God have mercy on civilians and the Peshmerga. We are proud of our religion, and there is no dignity for an extremist organization like ISIS, which has insulted Muslims and helped the enemies of Islam," he added.

On Thursday night, ISIS remnants attacked Makhmur District, which led to the martyrdom of 7 members of Peshmerga forces and 3 Kurdish civilians.

Terrorist attacks on the Peshmerga forces have recently increased.

On November 30, the Peshmerga forces repelled an attack launched by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist groups in the Kifri district of the Garmian region. read more

Both the United States and the United Kingdom condemned the attack and pledged to continue to support the Peshmerga in fighting terrorism

Iraq has announced a military victory over ISIS in 2017 after 3 years of battle with the terrorists. However, remnants of the group continue to impose threats, especially in areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.

The disputed areas and their surroundings are still a hotspot for ISIS activities. The terrorists' sleeper cells exploit the security gaps between Kurdish and Iraqi forces.

ISIS militants ambush, kidnap, and extort both civilians and members of the security forces in the disputed areas, which stretch across several provinces, including Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala, and Saladin.

Kurdish officials have repeatedly warned that ISIS militants are using “security gaps” between the Iraqi and Kurdish forces to carry out attacks in the disputed territories.

Despite the announcement of forming joint military units in those regions, however, the decision has not been put into effect so far.
