Iraq 03:07 PM - 2021-12-02

On Thursday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an evacuation flight for Iraqi immigrants was heading from Minsk to Iraq, with 433 passengers on board, while the Summit Foundation for Refugees called on the international community to expedite the rescue of the stranded in Belarus.

Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Al-Sahhaf said in a statement," in coordination with Iraqi Airways, the ministry has organized an evacuation flight for 433 migrants from Minsk to Iraq."

"The ministry has so far granted 140 passports to immigrants who lost their passports," he added.

For his part, Ari Jalal, head of the Summit Foundation for Refugees, called on the international community to urgently intervene and rescue the stranded in Belarus.

Jalal explained to PUKmedia that large numbers of migrants are still stuck in the Belarusian forests, and they are not allowed to reach Minsk airport to return to Kurdistan and Iraq or reach the European Union.

"They are in a difficult situation with extremely harsh climate conditions and do not receive any humane treatment," he added, pointing out that "Belarus uses them against the European Union countries."

He also announced that efforts continue to rescue those stranded in the forests on the borders of Belarus and Poland.
