Kurdish woman pilot saves lives of dozens of people

The Kurdish woman pilot, Warte Abubakir Ali, made a great history for herself and Kurdistan, when she saved the lives of dozens of passengers in her plane over Istanbul sky.

According to the information published by the Iraqi Airways, the airplane (B737-800/YIASJ), which was full of passengers and travelled from Baghdad to Istanbul was piloted by Warte Ali  and Abbas Omrani; when the plane reached Istanbul, it faced a violent storm that did not let the plane to land and force it to stay in the sky for an hour and a half, but in the end, Warte, using her skills, was able to land the plane safely and save the lives of all the passengers. 

Kamal Abbasi, the pilot in command of the aircraft, praised her work and her competence.

Warte Ali was born in Slemani, and she is the late Kurdish singer and lyricis Hama Jaza and famous politician Qadir Haji Ali's niece.

This Kurdish woman from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq became the first female to fly a Boeing 737-800 plane for the local airline Iraqi Airways.

The 26-year-old pilot, Warte Abubakir Ali, earned her certification in civil aviation in 2015 in Denmark and was hired to fly Iraqi Airways' Boeing 737 flights.
