On Saturday, at the Amna Suraka National Gallery in the city of Slemani, an art exhibition entitled "A Cry From Underground" was held by the young artist Kizhan Khasraw.

The exhibition embodies the suffering of women from violence, oppression, and neglect.

Artist Kizhan Khasraw told PUKmedia that she held the exhibition on the occasion of the International Day to Stop Violence against Women.

"The exhibition includes 20 paintings that embody the marginalization, violence, and persecution of women due to patriarchal society, customs, and traditions, despite the existence of laws that protect women, but the difficulty of implementing them makes women victims of these thoughts and traditions," she said.

"Women are killed in the name of religion and honor, which is a sad thing... A woman is killed by her father, brother, and relatives without them being held accountable," she added.

"The progress of civilized societies begins with the renunciation of violence against women, which is something we miss here," she pointed out.

Through her exhibition, Khasraw wants to spread awareness in society and show them women are making up half of them.

The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

On Thursday, November 25, some activities and campaigns were launched in the Kurdistan Region to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The Kurdistan Region still suffers from female killings in the name of honor, religion, and many other pretexts. According to statistics, 40 women have been killed since the beginning of this year.
