Fuel prices in the Kurdistan Region remain high with the price of a liter of super and medium quality exceeding 1000 dinars (70 cents), while the normal quality is 900 dinars.

Fuel price in the Kurdistan Region has hiked significantly recently, raising concerns among drivers despite promises to solve the problem.

Prices of the super quality of fuel used to be only 700 dinars per liter before it began to gradually rise during last summer.

Kurdistan Region's Minister of Natural Resources Kamal Atrushi has been summoned by the Kurdistan Parliament to be questioned over the issue.

The matter has caused great concern among citizens and even some protests that were left unanswered.

The Kurdistan Region has had a shortage in natural resources for weeks now, and the prices are getting higher daily.

According to the order number (8120) of the Ministry of Natural Resources which was passed on October 4th, 2021 has the signature of the Minister of Natural Resources, importing and exporting of all the oil products, oil waste, chemical materials, and any other special permits for the transfer of oil and gas companies and services can only be done with the approval of the Minister of Natural Resources.

Last Monday, Minister Atrushi announced that the Iraqi Oil Ministry has decided to send one million liters of fuel to the Kurdistan Region daily.

Furthermore, the Iraqi Oil Minister also promised to send 150K liters of white oil daily to the Kurdistan Region for 27 cents (400 Dinars).

"The shortage is due to a technical problem as the Bazian Refinery Station has stopped working, and we're currently cooperating with the Iraqi Government to solve the problem," Minister Atrushi stated.
