School bells rang on Tuesday in all towns and districts of the Kurdistan Region with around 2 million students present to begin their new year's education.

Tarifa Muhammad Abdullah, Director of Education Directorate of East Slemani, said in an exclusive statement to PUKmedia, that "the new school year (2021-2022) began today in all schools in Slemani Governorate."

All preparations and necessary health measures were taken to curb coronavirus infections at schools, according to the Education Director

Vaccination centers have also been opened for teachers before the start of the school year to get vaccinated.

"Last year, despite the obstacles and the bad situation of the coronavirus, which made the quality of education questionable, the students were not deprived of education and managed to complete their academic year through electronic studies," Abdullah said.

She added that school studies will continue with adherence to health instructions to curb any rise in infection rates.

On Monday, the Ministry of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced more measures to prevent any rise in coronavirus cases following the reopening of schools which includes mandating facemasks for students and teachers at schools.

School studies were in a continuous on and off state in the Kurdistan Region due to the corona pandemic since early 2020. KRG has adopted online studies for a period but insists to continue school studies for the new academic year.
