Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi visited several exam halls in the capital Baghdad on Saturday as the final exams of the 12th and final grades of schools have begun in Iraqi provinces.

"With you, my dear students, Iraq will rise, and we have worked day and night only to bring you to safety," Al-Kadhimi told students.

The Iraqi prime minister's visit came to "raise students' determination towards success."

"Despite the health, economic, and security conditions that the country is going through, and the frequent targeting of energy towers, we insisted that these exams be successful with your determination to face the challenge and achieve success," he said.

According to the Iraqi Education Ministry, 483,239 students from the scientific and literary branches of high school in all Iraqi provinces are participating in the final exams.

Al-Kadhimi also pointed to taking the exams amid difficult health conditions in the country and said:

“The health situation is serious. We need to adhere to safety measures as much as possible, and with this today you are taking exams and facing difficulties,” adding that there is nothing more important than education.

Regarding the start of the new school year, the Iraqi Education Ministry said in a statement that it hoped to begin the new school year in mid-October despite the health conditions in the country.

So far, Iraq has recorded a total of 1,815,497 coronavirus cases, including 20,025 deaths.
