Dahuk, (AKnews) - A specialized German company started its preparations to rehabilitate Lalish Yazidi temple, mayor of Sheikhan district said.

"A team of engineers from (Bossing) German company specialized in preparing designs and maps began working in Lalish temple,in coordination with Sheikhan council and Yazidi Spiritual Supreme council. This step comes after the contract signed with  the company to reconstruct Lalish temple last April for one year and at a cost of 850 000 dollars," Hassou Nermo said.

"The project is under the recommendation and order of the president Masoud Barzani, after the second visit he made to Lalish temple early 2009."

"According to the contract which is of two parts, there is a special section for the main map (Master Plan) and the second is for preparing basic designs of the main Temple and the work will last for one year."

Lalish temple (45 km north of Mosul and 5 km north of Sheikhan district) is the only temple for the followers of Yazidi religion in the world.

"The basic designs of the main temple will take into account the religious privacy and archaeological side of this temple and the temple won't be closed and will remain opened for visitors or delegations or Yazidi worshipers."

According to the researchers, the Yazidi is a Kurdish ancient religion because all religious texts are recited in the Kurdish language in the Yazidi religious rituals, and they mostly live in Nineveh and Dahuk provinces, north of the capital Baghdad.
