The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) upholds the resolution made during the recent gathering of the PUK's Leadership Council and opposes any delay in the Kurdistan parliamentary elections. The party has finished all necessary arrangements and has been assigned the number 129 by the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC).
PUK insists on holding elections on schedule
Luqman Wardi, member of the PUK's Leadership Council, denied the rumors that the PUK agreed to postpone the parliamentary elections in a statement to the GK (Gali Kurdistan), stating: "These rumors are completely false, and the PUK remains committed to the decision made in the last Leadership Council meeting, emphasizing the importance of conducting the elections as scheduled."
"The PUK will not attend any meetings and will not engage in any efforts to delay the sixth term of parliamentary elections," he said.
"We emphasise once again that no political party has the authority to decide on the postponement of the elections, and any attempt to spread misleading information in this regard is propaganda," the source stated.
All preparations have been made
"The PUK has completed all necessary arrangements for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, scheduled for June 10, 2024," stated Rizgar Haji Hama, the chairman of the PUK's Elections Bureau, told PUKMEDIA.
"The PUK will participate in the next parliamentary elections with the number 129 and according to the schedule of the IHEC, we are preparing for the next stages of the elections," he added.
Elections to provide a better life for citizens
The Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) issued a statement on April 18, 2024, stating: "The members of the Leadership Council stated that in order to promote our national progress, safeguard and reinforce the Kurdistan Region's framework, and enhance the welfare and prosperity of our citizens, it is imperative to conduct timely elections that are transparent and just. This is crucial for the preservation of the political movement's integrity and the prosperity of our people."
"The forthcoming elections present a chance for a democratic transfer of power and revitalisation of the political system, allowing us to assert our constitutional, legal, and national rights with confidence and solidarity within the context of the Iraqi political process," it added.
Campaigning begins May 10
The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has set the dates for the campaign period of the sixth round of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections. The campaign will commence on May 10, 2024, and conclude on June 6, 2024.
"As per IHEC's work schedule, the election campaign is set to commence on May 10, 2024 and conclude on June 6, 2024," stated Jumana Ghalai, spokeswoman for IHEC, in an interview with PUKMEDIA.
She added: "IHEC is currently preparing for the sixth session of the Kurdistan legislative elections. The campaign date has been set; however, the council of commissioners will make the final decision.
